'I truly dislike him' - Swansea's Williams in scathing attack on 'snarling' LFC star...

Liverpool will be looking to extend their 7-game unbeaten run against Swansea in the Premier League this weekend, and ahead of the game, Swans defender Ashley Williams has stoked the fire with some incendiary comments about controversial Reds striker Luis Suarez.

In his new book, 'My Premier League Diary' (Published on the 14th November), Williams admits that Suarez that he 'truly dislikes' Suarez; ridicules his 'shocking' diving, and and accuses the Uruguayan of treating Swansea with 'utter contempt'. Detailing his thoughts after Swansea's 0-0 draw at Anfield last season, Williams observed:

"He dived more than any other player I've played against before — it was so bad I was genuinely shocked. Throughout the game, he just dived down and screamed at any given moment.

"A couple of times I'd hear the scream, see him writhing on the floor and for the life of me couldn't see where the contact could have been."

There's no question that Suarez is a shameless diver, and there's plenty of evidence to back this up, but to be fair, over the last 4-5 games, he's (arguably) been trying hard to cut out that side of his game.

Williams also recorded some notes after Swansea's 1-0 win at the Liberty Stadium. He wrote:

"Having played against him twice now I just have to say that I don't like the bloke. They won a corner, and I appealed to the ref to say that it had come off him last. He said something to me with a bit of a snarl, so I just told him to shut his mouth.

"I don't like the superior manner he brings on the field with him. Basically I have no time for the guy at all."

Williams was linked with a move to Anfield during the summer, but given his vitriol towards Suarez, it's obvious why the move never came off. Imagine if the defender had moved, and then this book got published (!)

Williams' comments just illustrate yet again the deep-seated resentment that Luis Suarez has cultivated ever since arriving in the Premier League. Despite the 'victim' propaganda spread by his enabling apologists (Kenny Dalglish and Brendan Rodgers among them), the Uruguayan has brought it entirely on himself. There is no 'conspiracy', it is all down to Suarez.

As such, it is also up to Suarez to try and change the negative perception towards him, and if he continues to stay on his feet and refrain from play-acting, it's possible he could achieve that by the end of the season.

I really hope that happens. I don't enjoy criticising LFC players for diving, but I feel compelled to do so by a sense of internal conscience. I love watching Suarez play, and if he can cut out the dark side of his game then that can only be a good thing for Liverpool.

As long as keeps scoring goals & his happy I couldn't care less what Ashley Williams, Tony Pullis, Alex Ferguson, the LMA, Mark Lawrenson, Martin Samuel or Jamie Kanwar thinks of him.

Hopefully Suarez will do his talking on the pitch.

Do you think Williams has never mouthed off at anyone? I really hate how some footballers try to make themselves out as saints. They're all as bad as each other, with a few exceptions of some being worse.

Also I would like to add this! he is a saint! Carrol was no innocent though, but the initial challenge was from him.

can't you spend a week without criticizing Suarez?? did he f**k your wife?

Jaimie K said...

That's your right, and no one is trying to force you to change your view. Everyone just has their own view, just like you.

However, do you not see how you are an enabler? Do you not see that it is because of fans like you who turn a blind eye are part of the reason why Suarez continues to do it? By accepting diving etc because Suarez scores goals, you are basically condoning and encouraging his behaviour, which by the way, reflects badly on LFC.

Ultimately, you are prioritising the individual over the club. Bravo :-)

You´re in a very exclusive club Jaimie. Martin Samuel just compared him to a famous anti-semite, but yep, there´s room for loads more Suarez stories. Don´t you think it´s time for balance. Is it because he´s not British??? Seems that way in the media.

ashley should have kept his mouth shut suarez will probs score on sat.is luis suarez a peadophile or something.

Nivster said...

I doubt Suarez really cares if Williams has time for him and glad this came out before the Swansea game - Expect a great battle where hopefully Suarez will score or assists in plenty of goals.

The jury for Suarez is starting to turn and more "professionals" connected to football are starting to take notice of the great player he is rather than picking up on minor things that most players tend to do every week.

Jaimie K said...

That may be the case in the media, but my criticism of Suarez has nothing to so with the fact he's not British. I've highlighted diving from all nationalities, and historically, I've criticised Steven Gerrard and Wayne Rooney far more than anyone else on this site.

Crisis Man said...

I hope he rubbishes Suarez more...remember what happened to Moyes..!

Jaimie K said...

Yes, probably. LFC's players will undoubtedly hear about these comments, and will probably be highly motivated to do well.

Will said...

Cheating is part of football now. Its pretty much as simple as that. I dont agree with it, and I find it embarassing when I see LFC players dive. But I dont think it will ever be erradicated, so in a way we kind of just have to move on.
As I have said before, the state of football at the moment is really diminishing my love for it.
But it seems to go all the way to the top, i.e. governing bodies, who seem to be just as bad as some of the players. Teams have been found cheating, leagues have been found cheating, supporters have been shown to be massively racist and the governments brush over it like its nothing.

Will said...

Lol, classic!

Are you saying other Liverpool players don't "dive"? Are you saying Suarez "dives" because some fans say it's ok?

Billyparkes2009 said...

Suarez.....I personally think he has taken Ronaldo's place as 2nd best player in the world. What he does with the ball is pure magic, there no denying it. The way he turns defenders inside out, left right and centre and the goals he is currently scoring this season are phenominal. I know he has that side to him that people don't like (jamie in particular) but lets try and focus on the positives!!

Ashleyw said...

eh who the FUCK is Ashley Williams? 15 seconds of the big time and he tries to use a world class players name to promote a book that noone in their right mind would have any interest in buying! such a loser!

Johnype said...

Jamie K, why do you have to say as long as he continues to do it? Clearly he has not dived in the last few games and in fact has only dived once this season. Why are you still bringing up diving. I hope Lluis gets a penalty and a hat-trick this weekend.
Why don't you pick on someone ellse. Are you even for Liverpool or do you just hate Suarez that much?

Felderkirk said...

Ashley who? And you're telling me this bloke has a book?

I hope he's got a big family who have a particularly niche fetish for South Wales voyeurism.

Riiiiiiiiiight. Silly me.

Will said...

Sorry to say, but im pretty sure he has dived more than once.

Eric said...

Jaime, for the second time in a couple of days you're having a go at people who disagree with you calling them Suarez apologists. Yet you then go on to say everyone is entitled to their opinion so which is it? Why do you post this anyway? Is it to show that you've found someone else who has the same opinion as you do? I'll help you out, thousands upon thousands of people in England think that Suarez is worse than hitler. They all agree with you. Partially that is caused by the smear campaign Evra and the FA raged against him, partially that is because he can be quite the nob on the football pitch and he does dive. He's a fantastic player but he dives. He's not the only player to do so but that doesn't change the fact that he does nor does it justify it. So lots of people agree with you, others don't. Let it go.

Felderkirk said...

But what people like yourself "choose" to ignore is football is full of cheating by all teams and each team has some who do it more than others. However if you happen to be a "hell of a talent" you'll be singled out by bitter jealousy to!
Forms of cheating in football:
Claiming corners/throws that you know 100% is untrue.
Tip toeing forward in a line when the ref has set the 10 yards.
The cynical foul to stop an opponent run clear through.
Lying to the ref
Moving the ball forward for free kicks
Running 10 yards down the line before the ball is thrown back in way past the origin of the ball going out of play
The list goes on and on.
None of which can be called fair play, gentlemanly conduct or sporting in any sense at all!
Suarez is a genius, flawed? most are and he "dives" at times like "MANY" other players, but also has many fouls missed.
I would advise most fans to get over it and find something to concentrate on, to do with their own team.

Still starting to look like a vendetta, Jaimie lad.

Read an interesting article about Suarez by Martin Samuel yesterday, basically saying Suarez should win Player of the Year (because he is streets ahead and carries LFC on his own), but won't because he is disliked and it would prompt a breakaway Black Players' Union.
Sorry, but it's a talent contest, or at least should be.

Nobody, other than their own fans, liked Cantona or Bergkamp because they both had spiteful streaks.

If Luis scores this weekend, perhaps he could do a Tim Cahill ......???

Tim A Moseley said...

A part of an attackers weaponry is to get under the skin of a defender and it seems to have worked and in effect this does nothing for Williams because if he fouls Suarez then already in the mind of the referee is that he don't like him did he do that intentionally or did he go in a little hard because he don't like him.

All this has done is put a spotlight on Williams himself maybe that's what he wants but he has now put himself in the spotlight and people are going to be looking at how he performs against Suarez now and one false move or slip up and it's going to be magnified as would any goal by Suarez.

I've always thought it wrong to comment negatively about other players who are still playing because it can come back to haunt you in a big way

Indeed.

Mamoon Tayih said...

I am not defending Suarez here, but still I believe he's been given a hard time and all the spotlights on him. He does sometimes dive but IMO it's not that dark, also he is a player that plays with passion and heart which pushes him to challenge every player as a striker and this results in a lot of collisions. And TBH he has pulled himself together lately and focused more on his game and I believe the frustration of not scoring had to do a lot with his field attitude.

Yet on the other side, I just believe Williams should have learnt from pass experiences when it comes to criticizing Suarez. And based on facts, the chances of him scoring this weekend are very high!

Orme said...

Too many likes for this kind of statement...
I understand his frustrations and why he dives after a couple of fouls with no free kicks awarded, but if we all accept what you say then it is all about who is better actor, not player.
And he is one of the best players in the world.

Lejen said...

That old chestnut, if he was in a better team, etc. Not a given that a player will do better in a better team. Until then, he is a quality player in a average team that is in mid-table and in the Europa League ( The likes of Falcao and Cavani who aren't playing for top teams and not playing in CL, have just as big a claim as Suarez, if not more but in the top 3 players in the world, meh). That isn't what being in the top 3 players in the world is all about, imo. It is about winning things, playing at the highest level, as well as individual form on those platforms, imo. Individual form alone, especially for a average side, is not enough.

Deebo said...

Which is what he did to Evra.

Lejen said...

Not even the best striker around for me, in terms of form in the last 12 months. That would be Falcao.

FdotM said...

Spot on Will. This!

As long as fans turn their blind eye to it then it will continue.

There is way too much corruption in the game. Racism, bribes, betting, fixes etc...

I don't like when anyone cheats, even players of my club regardless if they score, but as such I cannot do anything about it because the masses turn a blind eye to it.

FdotM said...

FdotM said...

Players dive because they can get way with it.

Liverpool players dive as much other teams, however Suarez dives constantly, more than others in the team. Rooney, Young, Bale etc... are also culprits.

To an extent, players dive because fans do not mind this as long as they get some sort of advantage. But mainly because they can get way with it most times.

If FIFA announced that the penalty for diving is a 3 game ban, 2weeks wages then players would not do it IMO.

Rowanuk said...

who the f wants to read a mid table , unknown player like williams biog? why is he writing one anyway?
luckily for him, he'll never have to play with too many top class players.
how many times can people say luis is this and that. we've seen and heard it all before. zzzz

Eric said...

Because you called him an enabler. It's not like Suarez looks to anyone of us for approval for him "diving". He doesn't need any other excuse than that it's part of the game these days. An unattractive part but a part none the less. Strikers diving is in no way better or worse than defenders pulling their shirt, nearly rugby tackling them for every dead ball situation but both are part of the game. So defenders whinging about players diving should think twice before they open up their mouths or write a book. Obviously, second rate players have the right to write books too but in this case this one ends up looking like a bit of a hypocrite. I was going to use the pott and kettle expression but that could make me as big a racist as Suarez was made out to be, and in some people's mind actually is, after the Evra/FA smear campaign.

Suarez is a striker, of course he dives more than other players. Gerrard and Allen would look pretty ridiculous falling over in central midfield to get a 60 yard free kick wouldn't they?

I'm not contesting that it's a nasty side of today's game but it's also something that you can't single out players for.

I for once, agree with you. Luis is a great player, and i also feel he is trying to stop the whole 'diving' thing. i wouldn't trade Luis Suarez for any other player, but yet there is nothing wrong on calling out a player when he is doing things he doesn't have to do. Even if he plays for the team you love and adore

Digging up dirt here, "My Premiership Diary" by Ashley Williams, An argument about a corner kick. No revelation about that, i'm sure it happens at every corner kick...just most football books don't mention the banal. "Shut up"...."no you shut up"...."takes one to know one"....what a piss poor excerpt from a football book. Seeing as it's ONE year in the life of a Swansea player, I'm sure it isn't filled with too much excitement. So ordinary moments might well have been beefed up to make the book sell, a FOX News blow by blow account. Is there truth in it, maybe, but I choose to take it with a pinch of salt....or a yawn. As for contempt, he might well deserve utter contempt for releasing a book after one year, it's competing with Katie Price Volume I, II, III....etc. for worthwhile reads

The timing of this could have been better for the Swans because Suarez may well come back to bite us. Having said that, he won't find many friends at the Liberty. Many will have seen the sly little kick that put Chico out for a fortnight, not to mention the unpunished stamp last weekend. There was a time (post-Toshack, Smith, Irwin, Callaghan) when the Jack army felt an affinity with the 'Pool, but the sight of a yank-owned, Billy-big bullocks outfit trying to asset strip our club to buy success has put an end to that. We're grateful for the 20M though and - as you'll see - have put it to good use.

There are other players in the league who are just as bad as Suarez for diving. Bale and Ashley Young to name two. It is unfortunately part of the modern game and until steps are made to punish these individuals it will continue. I honestly believe that more is made of Suarez because he's public enemy no1 after the whole Evra racist thing. Young won penalties towards the end of last season through blatant cheating but yet nothing gets said, Bale is regularly booked for diving but hardly anything gets said. Suarez does a ridiculous dive against Stoke and now he's the worst diver in the history of the game. All part of the plan to drive him from these shores...

Why do english or british players never get blasted by fellow footballers in the premier league ... ??

There are a lot of players who dived without any sort of contact whatsoever ... but in contrary to Suarez, they never got blasted ... typical english media ...

His story about the corner is laughable ...

There are always claims from the players for corners, goal-kicks, throw-ins, fouls, penalties, cards, although the players know they don't deserve it !!

Ashley Williams is a disgrace to single out Luis Suarez for all the wrongs in today's football ...

Every time we play a premier league game, the oppositons starts to take swipes against Suarez, accusing him of being a diver and a cheat in public, it happens before every fucking match !!

That's defamation of the highest order !!

Does Gareth Bale get branded as a diver through his audacious non contact dives on a few occasions this season ?? No way !! Well, let's think why that could be ...

The same applies to other british players too.

What else needs to be said ...

Gothmog said...

Isn't it funny that the press and journalists like you Jamie, are always in need to write something about Luis Suarez, whenever he gets mentioned anywhere ...

Maybe not a plan Zulu , but agree with the rest, there seems to be a vogue for calling Suarez out for anything he does while media darlings, like Scholes, Young, Bale etc may attract comments briefly following an incident , but suffer nowhere near as much enduring attention or ongoing articles such as this one.

Jamie - you've made your opinion clear on this player, and imo are in danger of joining the growing army of people who won't let him get on with it- he's showing signs of cutting the diving out, yet a nobody like Williams says he doesn't like Suarez and it's a cue for yet another 'Suarez is a diver' article. Yes, it's your site, so you can put 3 a day on if you like, but surely that makes you an 'enabler' of the continued villification which a lot of people see as unfair?

He has tried to cut diving out of his game since the time he vowed to 'improve his attitude'; only problem is since then he been accused of some really bad tackles (some worse than others), and I fear that he's one tackle away from a red card so hopefully he's aware of this.

That said, I'm glad that Williams said that in public - Suarez seems to blossom when the crowd or the other team is against him.
