"Absolute poppycock!" - Comedy gold from Liverpool's FC's Barristers

For the second time this week, the High Court has ruled in favour of Liverpool FC in the ongoing fight for the club's future. Along the way, there have been some classic soundbytes from the Barristers representing LFC and RBS. I find withering, condemnatory put-downs from upper crust lawyers incredibly funny; I just wish I'd been there to hear them in person. Here is a selection of some of the best quotes from this week's legal action.

"Owners from beyond the grave who are seeking to exercise with their dead hand a continuing grip on this company"

David Chivers, QC on Hicks and Gillett's zombie-like grip on LFC.

"A grotesque parody of the truth".
Lord Grabiner, QC dismisses the allegation of a conspiracy involving RBS board members and RBS.

“The owners’ behaviour conclusively demonstrates just how incorrigible they are.
Lord Grabiner, QC

The proceedings brought in Dallas are abusive, vexatious and oppressive.”
Lord Grabiner, QC

"An abuse of process, unconscionable and an affront to justice”.

Richard Snowdon, QC slams the decisions to seek an injunction from a Texas court.

"This is unconscionable behaviour of the worst possible kind and they are probably sitting there giggling."
Lord Grabiner, QC lays into Hicks and Gillett

“Absolutely poppycock!”.
Richard Snowdon, QC on allegations that RBS was using its worldwide reputation to prevent any transaction that would permit Mr Hicks and Mr Gillett to recover any of their initial investment in the club.

"They concealed the fact because they are now anxious to secure for themselves a second bite of the cherry from that famous jurisdiction, the Dallas County Court"

Lord Grabiner, QC's withering assessment of the Dallas County Court. Note the stinging sarcasm.

“If it were not such a serious matter, it would be a joke.”
Lord Grabiner, QC on Hicks and Gillett's decision to obtain an injunction from a Texas Court

"I am shocked and chagrined! It's outrageous, egregious, preposterous!"
Okay, none of LFC's Barristers said this, but how I wish we had Seinfeld's Jackie Childs representing LFC ;-)

Messrs Grabiner, Chivers and Snowdon: I salute you!

  6. Surely the biggest joke of all was H&G reign at the club. Waisting more time trying to drag Liverpool through the US courts cos they keep getting laughed out of every court in the UK

  8. well, for many liverpool fans(included myself) it was not a laughing matters as we are hanging from the cliffby our nails, I was reading Gaurdian online and texting our friends.
our club and our football is in hands of people who have no interest in the club but see it as business and most of them dont even pay tax in this country. i really wonder how many clubs in spain or italy or germany are owned by foreigners?
