The league is over for us Liverpool fans! I saw the cfc against Bolton on Wednesday at the bridge and was blown away by your strength in depth! Let’s not blame the beach ball or the red cards we were 2nd best today. On too many tests this season Liverpool have crumbled. LFC made the right decision selling Keane but we never replaced him with a quality back up player. This has come back to bite us. I still can’t understand why a replacement was not found for him this summer! Then rafa made a horrible decision off loading Nemeth to Greece on loan as he has the potential to be the best of our 2nd string. This unfortunately will have to go down as a transition season. We can still win a domestic cup but unfortunately rafa is finished if he doesn’t at least finish in the top two with a trophy. As he signed on a five year plan. Despite taking us near last year and blowing our best opportunity I think he is not the man to take us over the final yard. I have a strong feeling he will be managing Madrid next year. We have to face facts that very few of the squad today would get any where near the squads of the other top four.(unfortunately) rafa has had to steadily improve the squad each season. But I think that outside forces such as mancity , spurs and Aston villa all improving have put us in a very vunerable position. Rafa has given us some great moments but I think there are too many problems with the thin squad we have. The major new issue is that carragher will have to be replaced as he cannot cope with playing in the expansive manner we are currently playing in. In addition Gerrard will be facing more injuries over the next few years we really need aqualani to step into his shoes in the next 18months. The solutions many fans may disagree but we need to do all of the following to have a chance qualifying in the top 4: Drop Carragher!( face facts if we want to play expansive football he does not have the pace to cover the gaps. Very sad as he has faded very quickly, Buy a quality winger and a back up striker for torres. Sell off babel ,voronin and unfortunately either relegate Lucas to 4th choice midfielder or sell him on. Despite his improved season we will not win the league with him anchoring our midfield. Pray for a miracle regarding Aqualani. For next season bring Nemeth back 1st thing at the end of this season.

  3. You deserve the loss today, for the way you have celebrated last sunday as if you won the bloody cup final. Carragher should have been sent of last week for his foul on Owen, guess it's karma he got red carded today. It's time you liverpool fans face the fact; you're not going to win the league.

  4. We are not getting the rub of the green.

Those are not red cards. You can see Zamora saying that JC got the ball.

They say that the sign of champions is when you can win ugly.. Well, that aint us this year.

  5. Alot of fans may dislike my points but these are my honest opinons.

    Problems with team:

Poor defence! Carragher decline and having confidence crisis and being exposed due to new partnerships. Liverpools new expansive attacking style isn't helping him. Used to being shielded by older defensive systems we played in and also the withdrawn defensive line we used to play with. More opponents have sussed him out. Watching a variety of quicker attackers getting goal side of him more frequently. Big challenge is that Carraghers not going to get more quicker and we may have to consider relegating him to 3rd choice promoting Skrtel and Agger to the first choice pairing.

Lack of quality cover for Torres!

Benitez needs money at x-mas at the very least to sign up a quality back up player with pace and power to act as a  contingency. Unfortunately voronin and babel are not consistent enough and lack the quality!

    Gerrard!

Reliance on him has to stop!! Gerrard is likely to need the opperation! Or a major layoff!!
Said this two weeks back on a variety of sites LFC like CFC need to start planning for life after our talisman it's inevitable Lampard and Gerrards powers are likely to start wane in the next 18 months! Gerrards game relies very heavily on pace and power and he will become more suceptable to injuries if he continues his career in the Uk over the next 18 months. He will either need to adapt his game over time or move abroad. The premiership is the best league in the world but because of the pace and demand very few dynamic attackers/offensive players can continue at this level once they hit the 30+ bracket. At the same time we need to be looking ahead for Gerrards replacement during this period as it's likely he will pick up a high percentage of injuries during this stage if his career.

Unless we can develop a player inhouse or sign convert an existing playmaker to take on this role we face a huge challenge.  My thinking is that Aqualani has been signed to tackle this challenge in mind. However we are going to have to sign at least one major midfielder in the next 18 months! This is on the proviso If Mach  stays but realistically I think Mach will be off in 18 months!

Lack of quality throughout the next 11

I watched CFC with me uncle at the bridge on Wednesday and despite my dislike for them. I admire CFC strength and quality in depth! Unfortunately for LFC too many of our next 11 are sub standard. I don't know who takes the blame for this but after 5 years we have seen an improvement of the first 11. However to win the league title we need a squad of 22! Where's  the competition for places in our squad? Most of our first 11 pick themselves and this will ultimately need to complacency! Mourinho and Fergie talk about competition for each position regardless of reputation. So it's either the question of a number of these players rising to the challenge or more juniors making the grade quickly or major transfer repair surgery!

Babel voronin, degen, nabil, plessis and host of others need to be sold!

    Left wing issue:

Riera had a solid season last year but injuries and a loss of form and uncertainty have effected him. I am still not sure he is the option to strike fear into opponents. LFC need a viable natural option on this side benayoun is not the answer nor babel neither these option are naturally left footed and their games are limited when thrusted in this role. Benitez needs a Silva or a player like Matta for this position to create challenge for opponents and also to create competition for this role inhouse!

    Problem at left back!

Despite insua showing promise he lacks defensive discipline his tactical awareness is very poor he will get better but he's a little too raw! Need to [...]

  6. I dunno what to say... Rafa's tactics are baffling to say the least!

Why do you have to play Lucas and Mascherano together all the time? They are identical in function and which self-respecting big club plays with two holding midfielders all the time?(Even at home!)

Starting Benayoun on the left where he can be easily marked out, when he should be playing in the hole behind Torres... What happened to Riera? Wonder if it's just the injury or something he said?

Why start with Voronin who has hardly anything to show for as a striker?
Whatever happened to Babel? Not even a sub these days, eh? Why not play him?

Taking off Benayoun, easily the best player on the pitch for us (Other than Torres who simply wasn't getting enough balls at him)...

I am tired of Rafa's system, we play ugly and don't even have anything to show for it! I say this again, I'd rather lose playing like Arsenal/Barcelona than play scrappily and win. If Real or Barca put in a performance like this, white kerchiefs would be out in no time!

Btw, Jaimie your site looks too cluttered these days... It looks like Rafa's youth policy, buy by the tons and hope something clicks ;)

  9. Apart from the obvious about the gane there are some decisions which i don't get. Why am i seeing Ecclestone come on, when Pacheco and Nemeth  (who have been touted as great prospects) are left in the cold. Nemeth is in greece when he could be on the bench, or at least playing in the league cup! Ecclestone played 1 game for the 1st team and that was agaisnt Arsenal in the cup days before!

Voronin was way off the pace, he dithered too many times and brought promising positions to nothing. Babel was infuriating, Rafa was  his usual implacable self.

It was hard to watch another winnable game go begging because of a lack of desire. Even Tony Gale, who is less than complimentary about us, said it was there for the taking, but in the end we were 2 players and 2 goals behind Fulham. To end up so humiliated was a disgrace!

  12. Rafa is a better manager than Shankly or Paisly, but unforetunately he's not as good as that whiskey-nosed manc.
