FOOTBALL CHEATS: No 18 - Morten Gamst Pedersen (Blackburn v Arsenal - 2009)

It takes something special to beat Wayne Rooney's pitiful and varied attempts at diving, but Morton Gamst Pedersen pulls it off with this laughable piece of play-acting against Arsenal.

  1. just wanted to say - I think this is one of the best footballing blogs I've ever read - I agree with you that the cheating in football needs to stop and it's refreshing to see that your willing to look in at your own team (gerrard) as well as others! For the record, Eboue's dishonesty and general play acting is the reason so many of us arsenal fans find him so unlikeable - even if he can have the occasional good game!

Congratulations on the great site and best of luck for the rest of the season!

  2. Appalling. A yellow card is not enough for this kind of dive.

  3. The series is not in numerical order - I'm just adding them in random order.  When the series is finished, I'll have vote and people can choose the top 20.

  4. Hi there,

Thanks so much for the kind words about the site :)

Eboue's play-acting is embarrassing I agree, but I've seen far worse from other players in the premiership.

I hope Arsenal have a good season - Wenger is a great manager and I love watching the team play.

  5. Brilliant! That one is really special. Rooney would have been proud of that. No? Sorry; I forgot that British players don't dive.

  6. Totally agree. Why can't they just introduce a straight red card for dives such as this?  If that was the punishment, diving would stop pretty quickly.

  7. I'd never noticed before but if you look carefully from the camera angle directly behind the players the Arsenal defender does actually clip his foot and then raises his arms - still made an absolute meal of it though. Number one has to be Diouf against Blackburn a few years back when he won a penalty against Friedel.
