EXCLUSIVE! Wayne Rooney admits to diving against Slovenia!

In the aftermath of the penalty incident against Slovenia, Wayne Rooney exchanged some words with fellow diver Steven Gerrard. Luckily, a pitch-side microphone picked up what was discussed between England's two most prolific simulators.

Shame on you, Wayne!

  2. What a fucking stupid statement. So long as it's for England it's ok. Then the shit head can go on TV and says he doesn't cheat and Terry can go on TV and say they are honest. This is why Wenger's 'I didn't see it' is the best response. He's not going out and telling you night is day and black is white like this bunch. I love the watching the Premier league, it's the best in the world, but I hope England get stuffed in the world cup.

    he is  not a diver.

  4. once a scouser, always a scouser.....

  5. rooney would never dive for a penalty. the guy is a saint and he said earlier in the week he is too honest to con a ref so it must be true.
if coleen can trust him not to be a granny shagger any more shurely we can trust his integrity?

  6. Come on Jamie. We know it wasn't a pen, but it certainly wasn't a dive. A foul and a yellow card? Quite possibly. But Rooney wasn't diving here, he was sliding in on the player after losing his cool from having his shirt pulled. You know what a dive looks like, Gerrard has shown you.

  7. whoever left the first comment.... THANK YOU you are the epitome of this whole problem. Its the millions of fans, players and media who all share your view of "but hes english" that is the cause of this storm. You're all pathetic. It cant of been a dive because he's english, well then i guess there's no longer any need for us to carry a passport huh, we can just rely on our  famous honesty and amazing ability to stay upright. 8. Rooney is a diver. I can't believe why ManU fans can't admit it. I don't have a problem admitting Gerrard being a diver. That was a dive. That was not a penalty and YES Rooney asked for penalty. Did you watch the video before you made a comment.

  9. Haven't seean anyone dive like that since Gerrard was shot in the CL final a few years back.

  10. I agree Scott - In Football Cheats no 13, I admitted it wasn't a dive.  I should have changed the title to something more apt.  Still cheating though in my book - Rooney fouled the guy and then deliberately claimed for a penalty. And yes, sadly I know what a dive looks like from Gerrard...

  11. CHEAT! CHEAT! CHEAT! CHEAT! F*CK YOU SCOTT THE RED! CLEAR DIVE!

  12. Soory guys, Scott is correct. This wasn't a dive. A dive is characterised by thetop half of the body leading the bottom half and a half twist and somersalt being optional upon hitting the deck. What Rooney did was more a 'throw the dummy out of the pram and go to ground' sort of thing. No where near the same level of technical difficulty, but on this occasion it did the job.

On a more serious note, I believe Rooney does this sort of thing in frustration. The defender had got in front of him an flicked his arm out to ensure Rooney was completely out of the challenge. Rooney gets frustrated and siezes upon what was an innocuous challenge and rather immaturley exaggerates the moment out of all proportion. The ref loves this and falls for Rooney's frustration and gives the pen. Rooney, like any kid, thinks he got what he deserved.

I love Wayne Rooney in full flow, he is going to be one hell of a footballer in a couple of years, but he needs to loose that streak of immaturity and childishness he still has. I want this coming World Cup to be remembered for Wayne finally hitting the World stage as probably the best young player on the planet, not another costly moment of pantomine and petulance.

  13. I didn't say " but he's English", I didn't claim English don't dive. I suggested that England supporters , regardless of their club support, should get behind England, rather than play out their inter club hatred. That can be left for Prem matches, but has no place in supporting their country.

  14. In fact I watched the entire match..... and again, I didn't say he didn't ask for the pen, I said he didn't give the pen, it wasn't him pointing to the spot.

  15. Whether you want to call it a dive or not, it's irrelevant. Rooney did cheat. You can't change that. It doesn't matter how you fall down when your only aim is to get a penalty.  Rooney is a wonderful player and he does not need to do that. It's the same thing with Gerrard. The most important thing in this video is that Rooney falls down after absolutely no contact made to him and appeals for penalty with his hands. That's a total disgrace. And after the game the player says it was a penalty. I can't believe it.

  16. Who is the idiot saying it wasnt him pointing to the spot? When a player dives does he ever point to the spot? Some people are alarmingly stupid. If it wasnt a dive why was he asking for a penalty?

    ReplyDelete
  17. Rooney sucks. England are a bunch of cheats. How sad is it that you have to cheat vs slovenia at wembley to win a "friendly" match?
If this is the England that we will see in South Africa next year...I feel sorry for you! I expect Trinidad to give you lads a torrid time again! lol!

    ReplyDelete
  18. What is alarmingly stupid is your failure to understand the point I was trying to make. I didn't literally mean that he didn't point to the spot, duh!! I was pointing out that Rooney was not the one who made the decision. Is that clear, or shall I draw you a picture?

    ReplyDelete
  19. another thing, "if it wasn't a dive why was he asking for a penalty?"
uh... because he thought he was fouled???!!!
Hmmm, who is looking stupid I wonder?

  20. nothing in the media re rooney chaeting.
why is it the english media round on any foriegn player who does anything worng yet if an English player does the samne thing they dont even mention the subject.
when eduardo was taking the penalty the itv sommentator said eduardo should have a consience and miss the penalty yet last night the same commentator said it was ok to score the penalty as the ref had made a mistake.
if you freeze frame a video of the incident you can clearly see rooney has grabbed the defenders shirt as he enters into the box then the defender is subjected to a two footed tackle that left him injured yet the stupid ref awrads a penalty when rooney should have ben sent of for a two footed tackle.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Two footed tackle my ass, you must have super vision,I watched it again and again, and there was no 2 footed tackle. I agree, it should not have been a pen, it was a non incident, should have waved play on.

  24. What a load of crap I read in some comments! I agree with ''<span style=" color: #484848; "><span style="font-weight: bold; color: #0066cc; cursor: pointer; ">Guest'': ''<span style="color: #404040;">When a player dives does he ever point to the spot'? No, he doesn't, so stop been so limited! Player don't need to fall like an ''actor'' to call him a diver. He tried to get a penalty by falling without any contact made, and then spread arms appealing for penalty! That referee is blind or stupid......or something else??</span></span></span>

  25. Why would he think he was fouled when he wasnt fouled? Dear God am i arguing with a 10 year old?

    ReplyDelete
  26. Why would he think he was fouled when CLEARLY ROONEY WAS THE ONE DOING THE FOULING! The Slovanian was the man injured ffs! Dear God...Am i Arguing with a 4year old?

    ReplyDelete
  27. Both were tugging, both were pushing, be brave enough to admit it. Is this whole thread meant to be anti United? I have read comments here, watched the clip a number of times, and I insist, it was a non incident, a "play on" sort of case. Rooney thought he was fouled, why else would he react? Some waould answer, "becuase he is a cheat", but his claim was not totally baseless. Those who say he cheated have to admit that there was enough contact between the 2 of them for either to complain, a fair bit different than the Eduardo incident.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Exactly, Liv'pool - it may not have ben a dive per se but Rooney cheated nonetheless.

As you say, there is no contact between Rooney and the Slovenian player.  If there is, someone please post the timestamp from the video so we can see this alleged contact.

Rooney fouled the guy, fell over in the process and then thought he'd turn the situation to his advantage and try for a penalty, which would:

    a) Turn attention away from his own yellow-card worthy foulf
    b) Give England an advantage.

  29. Where is this tugging and pushing that the Slovenian player was supposedly doing? Please point it out on the video (specify the time)

Even the commentator says 'Rooney had hold of Cesar's shirt', which suggests it was Rooney doing the shirt-pulling.

  30. I am not a big fan of Rooney and think that when he's on his game he is great - but mostly he is overrated.
However, after watching the penalty incident I think it was a foul because the Slovenian defender had hold of his shirt. If that incident had occurred in the centre circle it would have been a foul and the defender would get a yellow card. Surely a foul in the penalty box is a penalty. I agree it's a soft penalty but anyone who grabs a players shirt in the penalty is taking a big risk, so well done to the referee for applying the law.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Where in the video does the Slovenian defender grab Rooney's shirt?  Please watch the clip, pause it at the moment this happens and post the timestamp in a comment.  Thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  32. from 1:30, to just before 1:34, he tugs Rooney's shirt, then Rooney does the same. Tit for tat.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Questionable at best woteva contact the defender made with rooney wasnt enough for his shirt to change positions as a clear pull out on the shirt much less for Rooney to fall down by the incident.

    What a fuckin dive.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Both were tugging? No only One was tugging....do you see Rooney's shirt getting pulled at all?

Ronaldo teaches diving well....what a fantastic dive.

He thought he was being fouled even though video evidence shows no shirt pulland was asking for a penalty.

Clearly cheating and conning the ref...not sure how this is any different to the Eduardo incident. There was contact in the Eduardo incident as well. In both cases the contact shouldnt have been strong enough to fall either player down the difference is Rooney asked for it. Eduardo did NOT.

    ReplyDelete
  35. This isn't a dive - You've made your point about Rooney which is fair enough but I think that you're in danger of coming across a bit bitter and losing focus with this post. If it hadn't have come in wake of the whole eduardo dive media storm and he didn't play for man utd I doubt you would have reacted in such a way. The ref just made a terrible decision in an England friendly against Slovenia. Most players will appeal for anything to gain an advantage and have been doing for years whereas diving has become more widespread in modern times. Appealing for free kicks, throw-ins corners and penalties etc is fair game in my opinion and reactions and claims are often done in the heat of the moment, admittedly it can be a bit embarrassing to watch sometimes.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Yes, you're right - I already admitted in 'Football Cheats no 13' that it wasn't a dive.  it was cheating though in my view.  The title should be changed to 'Rooney admits cheating'.  I'll do that soon.  Anyway, this one is just a bit of fun, as the video and subtitles prove.
