VIDEO: Daniel Pranjic - Good enough for Liverpool FC?

Croatian winger Daniel Pranjic is the latest player to be linked with a summer move to Anfield, but is he good enough to enhance the side and help take the club to the next level?

Pranjic's agent revealed Liverpool's purported interest earlier this week:

“I can confirm that several English and Spanish clubs are looking at Pranjic. Liverpool has already demonstrated an interest and Betis and Sevilla monitor him.”

Take a look at the following clip and decide for yourself whether he's a player we should be sign:

Pros:

1. Ostensibly a winger, which the club always needs.
2. Seems to have decent pace.
3. Seems to be pretty good with set-pieces - this needs to improve at the club.
4. Able to play on the wing or as a left wing-back
5. 18 goals and 7 assists for Heerenveen this season (All competitions)
6. 27 years old with lots of experience.

Cons:

1. Seems a bit lightweight.
2. Averages 6 goals a season and 0 assists for the previous 3 seasons, which suggests his creative return this season is a one off.
3. Is he really any better than Aurelio/Dossena/Riera?
4. The premiership is miles ahead of the Dutch league in terms of quality. Would he be able to make the transition?

I'm not convinced.

  2. Pranjic has been a late-bloomer- he's gotten progressively better the last few seasons. Last season he was voted Eredivisie player-of-year runner up and he's on the shortlist to win it this season, so he's not a flash-in-the-pan (plus he was arguebly the best LB at the Euro's). Yes he's small but so is Aaron Lennon- so long as he's wide left it's not a problem (I wouldn't use him as a LB, though). Depending on the price he'd be a good signing who'd give Rafa options...

  3. As a winger, he's not bringing extra value, but at the national team of Croatia he has a defensive role. Maybe LFC would like to sign him as a left wing defender?

  4. I dont believe that Pranjic will add any more quality than what we currently have. A player like Antonio Valencia would be more of a benefit to the team.

  5. I think Pranjic gave the assist that denied England a ticket for the 2008 European Championship.

It is an understatement to say that the Premiership is miles ahead of the Dutch Eredivisie league. Fact is that we have seen plenty of quality signings from the Dutch league over the past years.

Other former Heerenveen players who play(ed) Premiership: Jon Dahl Tomasson (Newcastle), Ruud Van Nistelrooij (ManUnited), Marcus Allback (Villa), Erik Edman (Tottenham), Afonso Alves (Middlesbrough), Giovanni Zuiverloon (WestBrom).
