Newcastle vs. Liverpool: Premier League - Confirmed Teams

Summer signing Andy Robertson is once again ignored by Jurgen Klopp for today's Premier League clash with Newcastle United.

FULL TEAM: Mignolet, Gomez, Matip, Lovren, Moreno, Henderson, Wijnaldum, Coutinho, Salah, Mane Sturridge.

SUBS: Karius, Klavan, Milner, Can, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Firmino, Solanke.

NEWCASTLE: Elliot, Yedlin, Lascelles, Clark, Manquillo, Shelvey, Merino, Ritchie, PĂ©rez, Atsu, Joselu

As in previous games, Robertson isn't even granted a place in the 18-man matchday squad. Why? Robertson was a regular in the Premier League last season yet one transfer later, and his career has hit the skids.

Klopp is basically damaging Robertson's career, and I'm sure the Scot now regrets making the summer move to Anfield. To add insult to injury, he's being kept out of the team by Alberto Moreno, who is hardly a superstar performer.

Perhaps Robertson was late for training once? As his disgraceful treatment of Mamadou Sakho shows, Klopp has no compunction about marginalising players for trivial infractions, and it wouldn't surprise me whatsoever if Robertson is - for whatever meaningless reason - on the receiving end of Klopp's ire.

Conversely, Liverpool's manager is more than willing to ignore the infinitely more serious infraction of a drink-driving conviction. Go figure. I await the usual lame justifications/excuses for King Klopp's continued failure to include Robertson in the squad.

On paper, Liverpool have the better players, and the better team, but that counts for nothing if the team keeps sabotaging itself. Hopefully, the Reds can win today and go into the infernal international break on a high. On a related note:
