Liverpool vs. Crystal Palace: Premier League - Confirmed Teams

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has made five changes for today's Premier League clash with Crystal Palace, and unsurprisingly, Dejan Lovren is one of the players dumped on the bench.

FULL TEAM: Mignolet, Gomez, Matip, Klavan, Robertson, Henderson, Milner, Wijnaldum, Mane, Firmino, Sturridge.

SUBS: Karius, Lovren, Flanagan, Can, Salah, Solanke, Origi.

When asked about the changes today, Klopp told reporters:

“It was clear we had to make changes, especially with Trent. We cannot push him through all of the games...so that’s why we did it at the back. Daniel is back and that’s good news. I think it makes sense after a very good period pre-season then a short break with a little muscle thing that we bring him in immediately and use his quality. That’s the plan.”

* It's great to see Sturridge in the starting lineup, but to be honest, I fully expect him to sustain yet another injury today.

* Changing three of the four players in the back four doesn't exactly promote stability, but perhaps Klopp may stumble upon a more defensively solid system with Gomez, Matip, Klavan, and Robertson.

* Unless he's injured, Alberto Moreno appears to have fallen foul of Klopp again, and isn't in the matchday squad. Of course, it could be the complete opposite, and Klopp is so impressed by Moreno that he's saving him for the Hoffenheim game (!)

In the past, I would've worried about this game, especially after Palace's opening day defeat (and the fact they've won their last three games at Anfield). However, with Frank De Boer at the helm, Palace will inevitably plays a passing game, and that will play right into Liverpool's hands.

If the Reds have any chance of mounting a genuine challenge for the top four (or higher), then teams like Palace need to be dispatched at home, and I'm quietly confident of a Liverpool victory. It's a must-win game. No excuses.
