Record Transfer: Klopp can sign 'extraordinary' midfield sensation for €50m; 'Liverpool' interest confirmed

Liverpool have been regularly linked with RB Leipzig sensation Naby Keita this season, and it looks like FSG will have to pay through the nose to seal the deal.

According to German magazine Kicker, Keita has a whopping €50m release clause in his contract, which can be triggered in 2018.

Liverpool's interest is legit, and Keita confirmed this in October:

"Arsenal, and Man City...were interested in signing me, and Liverpool as well".

Despite interest from comparatively bigger clubs, Leipzig boss Ralph Hanselhuttl is convinced that Keita will stay in Germany. When asked this week about ongoing transfer speculation, he told reporters:

"He feels well, and we love him. If I take celebrations as a benchmark, Naby will stay with us forever."

In a recent interview, Keita offered a more circumspect take on his future:

“I’m very comfortable at Leipzig. My agent takes care of everything. When it’s time, I’ll discuss it [a transfer] with him and my family.”

Liverpool arguably need at least one combative midfielder, and Reds fans seem keen on the deal. I conducted a poll last month asking fans if LFC should sign 'extraordinary' Keita, and a whopping 91% of participating fans voted YES to the deal.

At first glance, Keita seems like an enticing option, but it a giant risk to spend €50m+ on a player who's yet to prove himself consistently at the highest level. If Liverpool are to spend that kind of money on one player, it should (IMO) go on the finished article, not someone with just one season in a top league.

€20m-€30m? Yes. €50m? No chance.
