Sturridge Out: Liverpool keen to sign 'extraordinary' €20m striker who wants to 'play at Anfield'

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has identified the player he wants to replace Daniel Sturridge at Liverpool next season.

According to The Independent this week:

"Jurgen Klopp hopes to sign Timo Werner and from Red Bull Leipzig as Liverpool target five transfers this summer, with the club expected to sell Daniel Sturridge"

This follows a report last month from the Daily Mail, which claimed:

"Liverpool have enquired about Timo Werner, but the German club is reluctant to sell".

Werner has already hinted that he's up for a move to Liverpool. In a recent interview, he enthused:

"To play at Anfield and hear fans sing 'You'll Never Walk Alone' would be something special."

Some info about €20m-rated Werner:

* 21-year old striker, who can also play on either wing. Contract expires: 2020

* Stuttgart: 25 goals/assists in 103 apps (One every 230 mins)

* Leipzig: 28 goals/assists in 32 apps (One every 88 mins)

* Aug 2013: Became Stuttgart's youngest ever player. Also the youngest player in Bundesliga history to reach the 100 game milestone.

* Feb 2017: Leipzig boss Ralph Hasenhüttl claimed: "Timo is currently the best German striker, and he has qualities that are extraordinary".

Werner is on fire for Leipzig this season, but he's only 21, and it's risky signing a young player on the basis of one good season. Granted, Werner is closing in on 130 Bundesliga appearances, so he has credible experience behind him, but I'd personally prefer Liverpool to sign the finished article (i.e. someone like Alexandre Lacazette, for example).

Please, not another young, developing player who'll probably take a season or more to settle in. Liverpool signed 24-year old Sadio Mane last summer, and look at the impact he made on the team. The Reds need more signings like that, not another young, developing player who'll probably take a season or more to settle in.
