Season Over? Klopp confirms €35m Liverpool star 'cannot play' vs. Man City and 'cannot train'

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has confirmed that one of the club's key players will miss this weekend's vital Premier League clash with Manchester City.

Henderson is currently on the sidelines with a foot injury, and when asked yesterday whether the captain will be available this weekend, Klopp told reporters:

"No chance. The break is hopefully is two weeks. He cannot train, for sure he cannot play against City. Hopefully he can run in the second week of the international break and then we will have to see."

Henderson hasn't played since February 11th, and after a month out already, plus a further two weeks until he's able to start running (not full training, just running), it may be the end of April/early May before Hendo returns to the starting lineup.

There's also a possibility that Hendo's season could be over. It'll take time to get back up to full match fitness, and at this stage of the season, time is one thing he doesn't have.

On a related note: the increasingly injury prone Dejan Lovren suffered yet another injury this week that forced him to sit out Sunday's victory over Burnley. Speaking to Sky Sports, Klopp confirmed:

"He [Lovren] got a dead leg in his back when we were working on set pieces. The muscle is now very sore."

This is Lovren's 8th injury since signing for Liverpool, and further underlines the pressing need for Klopp to bring in another experienced central defender this summer. It's impossible to build a consistent defensive unit around a regularly injured player, and unfortunately for Lovren, he just isn't reliable enough.

* €35m-rated (CIES Football Observatory). Described by Steven Gerrard as 'excellent'.
