Legend raves: 'Liverpool' should sign 'excellent' €23m Barca misfit who destroyed 'Coutinho and Firmino'

Liverpool legend Dietmar Hamann has urged Liverpool to consider yet another transfer raid on Southampton.

In recent years, the Reds have signed Lovren, Lambert, Lallana, and Clyne from the South Coast club, and after watching the Saints' 2-1 defeat at Spurs on Sunday, Hamann insisted:

"Oriol Romeu been excellent again today. He's type of player Man City and Liverpool could do with".

Romeu has also played well against Liverpool this season, especially in the EFL, where he helped Southampton do the double over the Reds, and keep two clean sheets in the process (three clean sheets overall including the 0-0 league draw at St. Mary's).

After beating Liverpool 1-0 in November, Romeu offered the following verdict on Klopp's team:

“Liverpool are a very strong team offensively. They put a lot of quality players between the lines. Coutinho and Firmino need to be pressed. They can’t be allowed to feel comfortable so you have to be aggressive and put your foot in".

This is one of the keys to nullifying Liverpool's attacking threat: endlessly hassle the club's fabled front four, and they're usually nullified, and keeping Firmino and Coutinho at bay for three separate games this season is a testament to this tactic.

It also shows the value of a dedicated defensive-midfielder, and as the current campaign has proven countless times, Liverpool are desperate for a tenacious ball-winner in the center of the field.

€23m-rated Romeu signed a new 4.5 year contract in January, so a summer move is probably unlikely, but as history shows, never say never when it comes to Southampton's players (!)
