Deal Close? Carra claims Liverpool could seal summer transfer for 'brilliant' €38m star after 'contract situation'

Will Emre Can still be a Liverpool player next? Reds legend Jamie Carragher doesn't think so, and is not convinced that the German has the quality to become a regular starter at the club.

Analysing Liverpool's 2-1 victory for Sky Sports, Carra claimed that 'only position' can play is 'sitting midfielder', and hinted that a summer exit is on the cars. He explained:

"He [Can] has got a contract situation at the moment, but is he going to sign it? There is a good chance he may not be here next season. I don't see, when the first XI is picked, where else he can play except that [sitting] role."

I totally agree with this, and it's an argument I've made since Can signed for the club. Can should play as a DM or not at all, and if he is going to be retained, Klopp should mould him into that position, and attempt to coach out his bad habits (over elaboration; unnecessary tricks; slowness on the ball etc).

That said, I have no issue with Can being sold. Yes, he can play the DM role, but Liverpool can do better in that position (Krychowiak, for example, who is on the outs at PSG) and given the fact he cost just £10m, there's clearly a great chance for the Reds to make a massive profit this summer.

Can deserves credit for grabbing a vital winning goal against Burley, but that shouldn't factor into his current contract negotiations. One goal doesn't define a season, and the reality is that Can struggled yet again for large parts of the Burnley game (symbolised by his poor 69% passing accuracy).
