Anfield MegaDeal: Journo claims 'Liverpool' could sign £50m striker who's 'better than Bale'

Liverpool are reportedly among the favourites to sign one of France's most prolific goalscorers this summer.

Over the last two years, Liverpool have been continuously linked with Lyon star Alexander Lacazette, and in an interview earlier this month, Lacazette confirmed:

“The right moment has arrived to leave. This summer I will need a change of scenery and discover something else, still with the idea of advancing and progressing in terms of football and as a person".

When asked on Monday about Lacazette, French journalist Julien Laurens (who writes for The Guardian) told BT Sport:

"He will go to England. Liverpool, Arsenal or Tottenham, I don't know. You will have to pay around £40m or £50m."

Liverpool were last linked with Lacazette in July 2016, and that was (arguably) the right time to push out all the stops and sign the striker. Luckily, the club's attacking midfielders weighed in with goals in the first half of the season, but right now, the lack of depth upfront is damaging Liverpool's season.

Lyon President Jean Michel Aulas has claimed that Lacazette is 'better than Bale', and although that's an obvious exaggeration, the Frenchman's creative stats are consistently good. Last 4 seasons:

* 103 goals/24 assists [127] in in 170 apps (One every 109 mins)

* 20+ goals every season for the last four years.

* This season: 30 goals/assists in 31 apps (One every 81 mins)

This deal is a no-brainer, surely?

* Hailed by Thierry Henry as 'extraordinary'
