Deal Close: Liverpool agree transfer fee for 'outstanding' £9m star; medical this week. Done deal soon?

Liverpool are close to sealing a deal for another of Brendan Rodgers' underperforming signings.

According to the Liverpool Echo:

"Liverpool are on the brink of selling defender Tiago Ilori to Reading. A fee has been agreed and the Reds have granted the 23-year-old centre-back permission to discuss personal terms and undergo a medical".

This is hardly surprising, especially on Jurgen Klopp's watch. After arriving at Liverpool last year, the German admitted:

"Tiago Ilori. When I first came here I didn’t know he was a Liverpool player to be honest".

A few months later, Klopp had finally realised that £9mIlori exists, and had some encouraging words for the Portuguese defender:

"Tiago Ilori is an outstanding player...who is really doing well [for the U23s]. They’re all full of praise for his attitude".

Well, Ilori's 'outstanding' ability and great attitude don't appear to cut much ice with Klopp, who has totally ignored him this season. Liverpool fans seem to have time for him, though. A few months ago, I conducted a poll asking fans whether Liverpool should sell, and a whopping 84% of participants voted NO.

Unfortunately, Ilori's regular injury problems suggest that he's too physically weak to excel in the Premier League, and I doubt it will be much different in the Championship. In my view, Ligue One, or Serie A is more Ilori's speed.
