Deal Agreed: Liverpool close to sealing loan for 'fantastic' playmaker who rejected Barcelona and idolises 'Alonso'

Liverpool are close to sealing the club's first transfer of the January transfer window.

According to the Liverpool Echo this week:

"The ECHO understands that Pedro Chirivella will join Dutch club Go Ahead Eagles until the end of the season. Jurgen Klopp believes that Chirivella would benefit from going out and playing regular first-team football between now and May."

Go Ahead Eagles are currently rock bottom of the Eredivisie, so it's unclear how a move to relegation fodder will 'benefit' Chirivella. He'd surely be better off going to another Premier League team, or a Championship club, which will allow him to further acclimatise to English football.

With all the clubs in world football, are we to believe that Go Ahead Eagles is the best club Liverpool can find to develop one of its most promising Academy midfielders? In my view, it's just as bad as sending young players on loan to clubs like Accrington Stanley and Cheltenham (Yes, that's actually happened), i.e. a total waste of time. Some info about Chirivella:

* Jun 2011: Rejected the chance to sign for Barcelona.

* Jun 2013: When asked about role models, Chirivella mused: "Busquets & Alonso are my favourite players. Different, but best in their position. They are the two I admire"

* Mar 2016: Revealed that Klopp had instructed him to improve in one specific area: "He [Klopp] has told me to improve without the ball, that with the ball I am a really good player but I need to concentrate and focus without the ball. Hopefully I can do it".

* May 2016: Made his Premier League debut for Liverpool.

Quite how a vastly inexperienced young player is supposed to develop during a relegation dogfight is anyone's guess, but good luck anyway!
