Decision Close: 'Fantastic' £20m attacker could end up at Liverpool this week

One of Liverpool's loan players could be on the way back to Anfield this month.

According to Portuguese newspaper Record this week:

* Sporting Lisbon are 'dissatisfied' with Markovic's performance, and want to cancel his loan deal this month.

* Markovic has a clause in his loan deal that stipulates that me must play a certain number of games, and so far, Sporting have not met the requirements of the clause.

* Sporting may be required to pay a financial penalty for non-compliance if the loan deal is cancelled.

The Liverpool Echo also adds:

"Markovic could be sent back to Liverpool this month, so disastrous has his time been at Sporting, where he was the target of jeers from his own fans".

In October, ex-Red Neil Mellor suggested that Markovic will find it 'difficult to develop at Sporting Lisbon', and with just 2 goals/0 assists in 14 games for Sporting so far, that appears to be the case.

Did Jurgen Klopp make a mistake sending Markovic on loan? I conducted a poll recently asking fans if Klopp should've kept Markovic in the squad this season:

* 54% of participating fans voted in favour of Markovic staying put..

I voted YES to keeping Markovic. I'm not his biggest fan, but Liverpool are short of wingers, and it would've been interesting to see if Klopp could get something out of the Serb. Sending Markovic out on loan suggests that Klopp doesn't rate him (and probably means he'll be dumped if/when Liverpool can recover the bulk of his £20m transfer fee)

Is Markovic a busted flush, or can he salvage his career under Klopp?

^ Hailed as 'fantastic' by Jordan Henderson last season.
