Liverpool continue to be linked with a move for one Germany's brightest rising talents.
Last week, German newspaper Sportbild claimed:
* FSG have granted Klopp a €47m transfer war chest to sign players during the current window.
* Bayer Leverkusen star Julian Brandt is Klopp's top target.
Unfortunately for Klopp, Leverkusen are reportedly refusing to sell this month, according to the Liverpool Echo today:
"Liverpool know that [signing] Brandt in January won’t be possible [so] the Reds [will] test Leverkusen's resolve in the summer. Jurgen Klopp is a big admirer of [Brandt] who has been scouted regularly this season".
Brandt has also ruled out a January transfer. When asked this week about leaving Leverkusen this month, he told Bild:
“I would not be scared to dismiss Bayern for a second time. The same goes for other clubs too. I feel very comfortable here and I know what I’ve got here".
Some info about Brandt:
* 20-year old left-winger, who can also play on the right, or as a number 10. Contract expires: 2019. Rejected Chelsea to sign for Leverkusen.
* Leverkusen: 19 goals/22 assists (41) in 115 games (One every 146 mins). 4 apps for the German national team.
* Scouting Report (Strengths): "Strong all-round attacking game. Two-footed speed merchant. Excellent in tight spaces, and stronger than he looks".
* Sep 2014: When asked his strengths and weakness, Brandt told reporters: "Weaknesses are defensive work and heading ability. I live by my speed, I'm good with both feet, and I give everything on the pitch"
* May 2015: Leverkusen Sporting Director Rudi Voller raved: "He [Brandt] is exceptional. Fast, and a great natural talent. He has many qualities that you can not learn"
* Nov 2016: When asked about Brandt's future, his agent told Express.de:"There is interest, but there are no negotiations or preliminary talks with other clubs yet".
Klopp obviously knows Brandt from his time in the Bundesliga, so this link makes a lot of sense, but in my view, the youngster is right to reject a big club move and continue his development at Leverkusen. The likes of Bayern and Liverpool will come calling again in the future, so what's the rush?
* €40m-rated (CIES)
