Deal Close? Insider 'source' confirms Liverpool transfer decision on 'amazing' £70k-a-week star

Are Liverpool really interested in signing yet another Southampton player during the January transfer window.

Over the last month, multiple reports have claimed that Jurgen Klopp is keen to sign Saints defender Jose Fonte, but according to Sky Sports over the weekend:

"According to Sky sources, Jose Fonte is not a target for Liverpool in the January transfer window. Sky Sports News has been told there is no interest from Liverpool and Fonte is not a target for Jurgen Klopp’s side"

The Mirror, however, claims that Liverpool ARE still interested:

"Liverpool want Jose Fonte to plug their leaky defence. Fonte’s experience is seen as a major asset to Klopp [and] Southampton will want £10m the Euro 2016 winner".

Whatever the truth, Reds fans are keen to see Fonte sign for the club. A few weeks ago, I conducted a poll asking fans if Liverpool should sign the Portuguese. The results:

* 62% of participating fans voted YES to signing Fonte.

Reds legend Mark Lawrenson is in favour of a transfer, and when asked last season about Liverpool's centre-back situation, he told the BBC:

"I think Liverpool signed the wrong Saints centre-back when they bought Dejan Lovren in the summer, because Jose Fonte has just been outstanding for them".

Liverpool are also linked with Virgil Van Dijk, and it's surely improbable for Klopp to sign both?

* Jan 2017: Described by Cedric Soares as 'amazing' player and a 'positive' influence on the team. Reportedly on £70k-a-week at Southampton
