Anfield Update: 'Incredible' £25k-a-week international on the verge of surprise return to Liverpool

One of Liverpool's loan players could be on the way back to Anfield during the January transfer window.

According to the Daily Mail:

"Liverpool full back Jon Flanagan may cut short his loan spell at Burnley".

When asked this week about Flanagan's future, Burnley boss Sean Dyche admitted that he's currently assessing the loan deal:

“It takes time to come through injuries, and we knew there’d be an adaptation period. He knows how we operate. We’ll monitor his situation and him with us.”

Flanagan has made only 5 Premier League appearances for Burnley, and been an unused substitute on 10 separate occasions. To add injury to insult, Flanno picked up another knee problem on Boxing Day, though according to The Mirror, the injury 'is understood not to be serious'.

I don't see the point in cutting short the loan. If Flanagan can't get regular game time at Burnley, he won't get it at Anfield, either, especially with Clyne, Milner, and Moreno - all of whom are fit/robust - ahead of him in the pecking order. Flanagan has a season-long loan, and he should stay at Burnley and fight for his place. Returning to Anfield now is arguably tantamount to a personal defeat.
