'I'll Be Back': Great news for Klopp as 'brilliant' £100k-a-week star confirms return to Liverpool 'training'

When will 'brilliant' Liverpool defender Joel Matip return from his latest ankle injury?

When asked today about his injury layoff, Matip told the official Liverpool FC website:

"In a few days I hope I'll be back in full training. That's the plan. We are really positive and hope that this chapter is closed".

Matip also shed some light on the nature of his current injury:

"It was my left ankle, a ligament was damaged. At the beginning, it needed rest but I wanted to play too early. 3 or 4 weeks before the West Ham game, I really felt it and I wanted to play a little bit too early, but now, I'm on a good way."

So, Matip was rushed back into action whilst struggling with injury, and it exacerbated the problem, leaving him on the sidelines for an extended period of time. This is exactly why players should not be rushed back into action after an injury, and in my view, it's a form on negligence on part of Liverpool's management team. If asked, players will often say they're ready, but the manager and the medical staff should err on the side of caution, and not take any risks, irrespective of the player's view.

In this case, it sounds like Klopp and the medical team took Matip's word for it, and that led to disaster. Hopefully, Coutinho - who is also out injured - will not suffer the same fate.

* Matip: Reportedly on £100k-a-week
