Done Deal: 'Amazing' £20m sensation wanted by Klopp signs 4.5 year contract after Liverpool contact

Jurgen Klopp appears to have failed in his attempt to lure a promising new left-back to Anfield.

Last month, multiple reports claimed that Liverpool contacted Southampton to 'express interest' in signing Leeds youngster Sam McQueen, but according to Sky Sports today:

"Southampton full-back Sam McQueen has signed a new four-and-a-half-year contract with the club".

After signing the new deal, £20m-rated McQueen - hailed last month as 'amazing' by Oriol Romeu - enthused:

"The last couple of months have been amazing and this new contract just rounds that off. Now it's important that I keep working hard and make as much of an impression as I can."

As I argued last month, McQueen is this season's Ben Chilwell, i.e. a young left-back endlessly linked with Liverpool who ends up staying at his club.

That said, signing a new contract means very little these days. Oftentimes, the new deal is merely a way to ensure that the selling club can get a good transfer fee when the player is eventually sold.

As recent history proves, Southampton is a selling club, and if the right offer comes in, I have no doubt the Saints will sell McQueen.
