Deal Close? Boss confirms 'Liverpool want to sign' €25m attacker who's 'better than Ronaldo' at 'one-on-ones'

Las Palmas president Miguel Angel Ramirez has confirmed that Liverpool are interested in signing one of his club's top transfer targets.

Speaking to Spanish newspaper Marca this week, Ramirez noted:

"Liverpool, Milan and Roma want to sign Jese and are ready to pay what he earns. We cannot afford that salary. We are at a disadvantage and hence we have to wait".

Prior to his summer move to Paris St. Germain, Liverpool were regularly linked with a move for Jese, and at the time, ex-Red Danny Murphy urged Jurgen Klopp to sign the Spaniard:

"A more realistic alternative [to Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang] is Jese Rodriguez at Real Madrid, who has grown tired of a lack of game time at Madrid. Jese is young, quick and well worth a gamble given his current discontent.”

Some info about Jesé, hailed by former Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti as a 'dangerous' player:

* Left-winger, who can also play on the right, and as a secondary striker. Contract expires 2021.

* Madrid: 34 goals/assists in 94 apps for Real Madrid (Goal/assist every 86 minutes). 15 goals in 33 apps for various Spain youth teams.

* PSG: 2 goals/assists in 14 apps (One every 184 mins).

* Dec 2014: Suffered a cruciate ligament injury, and spent 260 days on the sidelines recovering.

* Oct 2015: Former Madrid coach Deogracia Martin, raved: "In a few years, he [Jese] will show that he is better than Cristiano Ronaldo. At the moment he’s better than him on a one-on-one situation."

Jese's stats at PSG seem poor, but he's only averaging 26 minutes of pitch time per game, and is very much a bit-part player in France. His stats at Madrid are formidable, though, and show that he has the ability to make a difference at the highest level. That said, the idea that Jese will be 'better than Ronaldo' seems like rank delusion wishful thinking right now, but he's only 23, so there's plenty of time to improve.

Jese cost PSG €25m just 5 months ago, and it seems unlikely that they'll dump him so soon after signing. Worth a bid?
