Deal Close? Liverpool now free to sign 'incredible' midfield powerhouse for £20m. Transfer wanted by fans

Liverpool are once again being linked with a one of Serie A's powerhouse midfielders.

In November, Agent Jonathan Maarek indirectly confirmed Liverpool's interest in signing 'incredible' midfielder Inter star Geoffrey Kondogbia, and according to Gazza Mercato this week:

"Liverpool are still in the race to sign Kondogbia. Inter are willing to negotiate a transfer, and are looking for a bid of £20m. It's just a question of which interested club will make the first move

Kondogbia fell foul of deposed Inter boss Frank De Boer, who recently aired his frustration in 'public':

"He makes the same mistakes often. We cannot accept that from players when we’ve told them many times. I told him he needs to play simple balls, but he just doesn't want to listen".

Prior to being sacked, De Boer benched Kondogbia for 7 of his last 9 games in charge, and even subbed him off after 27 minutes in a match against Bologna. De Boer's exit doesn't appear to have made any difference, either, as new Stefano Pioli has used Kondogbia sparingly since taking charge (Unused sub or subbed off in 5 of Pioli's 6 games in charge).

Despite his apparent flaws, Liverpool fans appear to want Kondogbia at Anfield. I conducted a poll last month asking if the Reds should sign the midfielder. The results:

* 55% of participating fans voted YES to the deal.

According to De Boer, Kondogbia is 'like Pogba', and 'has all the characteristics needed to become a top player'.

Perhaps Jurgen Klopp can coach out Kondogbia's mistakes and push him to become a 'top player'...?
