Anfield Update: Agent of 'impressive' €27m Liverpool target flies in for transfer talks. Signing for Chelsea?

It looks like Liverpool are about to lose out on one of Jurgen Klopp's alleged January transfer targets.

On Wednesday, Sky Sports claimed that Liverpool are 'lining up a €27m January bid for Atlanta holding midfielder Franck Kessie', but according to Italian newspaper Corriere Dello Sport today:

"Kessie's agent, George Atangana has flown to London to discuss a possible transfer with Chelsea boss Antonio Conte".

Liverpool have allegedly scouted 'impressive' Kessie 'extensively' this season, and with Man City, Juve, Man United, and Chelsea now interested, the Reds clearly have a lot of competition.

Jordan Henderson is currently playing the holding role, and it seems unlikely that the captain will be cast aside for a 19-year old, so where does Klopp see Kessie fitting into his side?

* You don't pay €27m for a player to then keep him on the bench, so it looks like Emre Can and Giorgino Wijnaldum will have some major competition for their places (which is a good thing).

* Bringing in another central midfielder should (in theory) release Wijnaldum to play in a more advanced role, and perhaps that's Klopp's overall plan?

Kessie recently admitted that he'd 'like to play for Manchester United', and confirmed that 'United has always been my favourite team', so to be honest, if he genuinely feels that way, then Chelsea are welcome to him.
