'WOW': Gary Lineker reacts to Liverpool's shock capitulation at Bournemouth; LFC legend 'speechless' after defeat

What a choker. Liverpool bucked a historical trend today by throwing away a two goal lead against Bournemouth.

According to OPTA:

"There have been 1061 previous occasions of a team being 2-0 ahead at half-time in the Premier League. Only 22 [2.1%] have lost from that position".

Well, after conceding four goals in a second half capitulation, Liverpool are now number 23 on this unenviable list.

After the game, Gary Lineker made reference to this particular stat:

"WOW. Guess those percentages [for teams losing a 2-0 lead] just shifted slightly. Well played Bournemouth".

Some further post-match reaction:

* John Aldridge: "That's why i haven't been getting carried away! Speechless! Back to our old defensive ways".

* Ray Clemence: "What a disappointment Liverpool. After 2-0 up, controlling the game, to give away 4 goals in second half?".

* Jurgen Klopp: "We have to accept it [the loss] and learn from it. We will do that for sure and everything will be good again.”

A poor defeat to be sure, but it's only second league defeat of the season, so it's not the end of the world. The manner of the defeat will lead to overly emotive, knee-jerk reactions, but when it comes to achieving the season's main goal (i.e. finishing in the top four), Liverpool are still right on course.
