Great News for Liverpool: 'Amazing' €53m superstar confirms he's very close to Anfield 'return'

When will Liverpool talisman Philippe Coutinho return to action after his latest injury?

On December 1st, a few days after sustaining his ankle injury, Jurgen Klopp suggested that Brazilian will be out until mid-January, but according to a statement on the official Liverpool FC website:

"Philippe Coutinho is targeting Liverpool's meeting with Manchester City on New Year's Eve for his return to action".

According to the man himself:

"My hope is to return for this game. The rehab is going really well. I can now walk without crutches and I am working well with the medical team. So I'm pleased with how I am recovering."

Coutinho also revealed his frustration with having to watch Liverpool falter from the sidelines:

"Obviously I have been very frustrated, because like any player who is injured, it is tough to watch rather than help the team".

Coutinho may be targeting a return on New Year's eve (which is 17 days from now), but I doubt he'll start the Man City game as he surely won't be match-fit.

Still, the good news is that he'll probably be available when Sadio Mane leaves for the AFCON, and that's the main positive.

* Coutinho: €53m-rated (CIES Football Observatory). Hailed as 'amazing' by Joel Matip.
