Ex-Red raves: 'Brilliant' €21m Klopp signing is a transfer 'revelation' for Liverpool and a 'real bonus'

Ex-Red Danny Murphy has praised 'brilliant' summer signing Joel Matip for his ongoing impact on the team.

Speaking to the BBC this week, Murphy raved:

“[Joel] Matip has been a revelation, he’s the real bonus there. It’s whether Lovren, Lucas or whoever joins him can help make it more solid, but he’s been a real bonus.”

In my view, Matip is Liverpool's signing of the summer, and he exudes calm and authority at the back, something that is (arguably) benefiting Lovren, who - Crystal Palace mistake aside - has looked very solid this season.

On the subject of transfers - based on his first set of deals, Klopp seems to have good judgement in the transfer market. Bar Marko Grujic (who is still adapting to the league), Mane, Wijnaldum, Karius, Matip, and Klavan have all hit the ground running, and collectively, they'll all contributing to the team's forward progress.

Liverpool rarely have such a high success rate in the transfer market, and after years of expensive flops, it's refreshing to see the tide (seemingly) turning. Of course, it remains to be seen whether Klopp can continue this trend, and with any luck, he'll have a more successfull January transfer market this season.
