Deal Close? Legend insists 'fantastic' €42m star wanted by Liverpool 'will' be signed 'soon'. By Jurgen Klopp?

Arsenal legend Martin Keown insists that a transfer is imminent for one of Liverpool's current transfer targets.

Liverpool are reportedly considering a January move for Southampton star Virgil Van Dijk, and according to Keown:

"Virgil van Dijk has impressed me recently. He's a mobile but big player [like] Sol Campbell, and he will be snapped up soon".

Van Dijk's wowed Liverpool fans with imperious performance at St. Mary's last Saturday, and a Matip-Van Dijk partnership is certainly an enticing prospect. Some info about Van Dijk:

* 25-year old centre-back. Contract expires: 2022. Missed only 8 games through injury in the last five years.

* 54 apps for Southampton. 12 apps for the Netherlands national team.

* Mar 2016: Fraser Forster raved: "He [Van Dijk] is a massive player. Big, strong and very quick, and fantastic on the ball".

* Apr 2016: Ronaldo Koeman's assessment: "He [Van Dijk] is strong, fast; good at short passing; and has a good long pass. He is also a good header of the ball. He's a very good centre-back."

Unfortunately, the Express claims that Liverpool will have some strong competition for Van Dijk's signature:

"Manchester United are also keen on van Dijk, but the Reds are likely to have to fork out at least £30m to prise him away".

Last summer, Klopp signed Matip, Karius, and Klavan for a combined total of less than £10m, so it's unlikely that he'll spend £30m+ on one defender. That said, is Van Dijk worth that kind of money?
