Liverpool have rewarded one of the club's most promising midfielders with another contract extension.
According to the Daily Mail (and multiple other sources} this week:
"Liverpool midfielder Kevin Stewart has been rewarded for his breakthrough under Jurgen Klopp by agreeing a new deal that will keep him at Anfield until 2021.
Stewart - who, according to Alex Inglethorpe, 'rejected Sheffield United and other Football League clubs' for LFC - only signed a new 4-year deal in February, so to get yet another extension just 8 months later means is a little unusual.
Jurgen Klopp must rate him very highly, though there is, of course, another possibility.
Oftentimes, new contracts are used to ensure that a decent transfer fee is received when a player moves on, and it's possible Liverpool are employing that strategy with Stewart.
After all, it's hard to see how he's going to get regular game time over the next two years, and Klopp has already shown that he's not averse to selling the club's young players (Jordon Ibe, for example).
The situation is the same with Simon Mignolet. In January, the Belgian signed a new 5-year contract, but he's now been relegated to the bench, and if he grows frustrated and wants to leave, the 5-year deal will (in theory) help the Reds get a good transfer fee.
Does Stewart have any realistic chance of becoming a first-team regular under Klopp?
