Legend blasts: 'Adequate' £120k-a-week Liverpool star must improve or he'll get 'found out'

According to ex-Red Jamie Redknapp, James Milner compares favourably to Liverpool legend Steve Nicol, but Nicol himself isn't impressed with Milner's performances this season.

In a recent column for the Daily Mail, Redknapp raved:

"James Milner is a manager's dream. He reminds me of Steve Nicol...who was such an unsung hero in our squad".

When asked about Milner's performance at left-back, Nicol struggled to muster up any enthusiasm:

“Milner has been adequate. Eventually, he’s going to get found out against a wide man with pace and trickery. He hasn’t come up against anybody like that yet.”

Talk about being damned with faint praise (!) To be fair, due to suspect positioning, Milner was (partially) at fault for a couple of goals earlier this season, but he's been solid over the last 4-5 games, and that has coincided with Liverpool's great run in the Premier League.

Nicol may turn out to be right, though. Bar Willian for Chelsea (who's more industry than guile) Milner hasn't yet come up against a specialist, top-class wide player, and it'll be interesting to see how he responds against better attackers over the next few months.
