Marquee Transfer: Klopp keen to sign 'outstanding' €50m goal-machine; Liverpool 'offer' made already in 2014

Last season, Reds legend Phil Thompson urged Liverpool to sign PSG star Edinson Cavani, and new reports this week suggest that Klopp has his eye on the 'outstanding' Uruguayan striker.

According to Italian newspaper Tutto Mercato:

"Cavani has not yet responded to PSG's offer of a three-year extension. Liverpool and Arsenal continue to monitor his situation, and Cavani has already chosen to pursue a move to England".

Liverpool have been regularly linked with Cavani over the years, and in August 2014, his Agent told Uruguayan newspaper El Telegrafo:

"Cavani had offers from Liverpool and Arsenal. He would love to play in England. He's not interested in money and fame; he just wants to be happy playing football."

Liverpool were also linked with Cavani in 2012, and at the time, his Agent told reporters:

"Liverpool and Arsenal are the first clubs that Cavani has agreed to talk to. It is no secret that Edinson want to play in England. It is one of his greatest dreams".

In August, PSG reportedly rejected a €50m offer for Cavani, and if Liverpool are to prise him away from France, the club will almost certainly have to pay through the nose (though the fact he's approaching 30 may have an impact on the transfer fee)

Like Suarez, Cavani - who has 11 goals in 9 games for PSG so far this season - is an extremely hard-worker on the pitch, and in that regard, he's a perfect fit for Klopp's Liverpool. Cavani's overall stats at PSG:

* 92 goals/18 assists (110) in 157 apps (One every 108 mins)
