Klopp raves: Forget Can/Hendo - 'Outstanding' Liverpool star is the 'best in the squad' at this

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has hailed Reds midfielder Kevin Stewart for his combative nature on the field.

Stewart put in a committed performance against Spurs on Tuesday, and according to Klopp, the ex-Spurs man is better than any other Liverpool player at one particular aspect of the game. He explained:

"He [Stewart] is very important. I've said it a few times, but he is the best challenger in the squad. An outstanding challenger, and in one-on-one situations, he is really ugly to play against. He is a good footballer as well".

Klopp has a habit of heaping effusive, disingenuous praise on players who rarely feature in the first-team. For example, he has repeatedly hailed Danny Ings, but the striker is still stuck in the U23s most of the time.

Plus, ahead Liverpool's last league game, Klopp hailed Sturridge as an 'outstanding player' capable of 'unbelievable skill', then left him on the bench.

If Stewart is so 'important', 'outstanding', and 'the best challenger in the squad', why is he rarely in the team, or even in the Premier League match-day squad?

After this overt praise from Klopp, Stewart can expect more first-team action to be stuck in the U23s for the foreseeable future.
