'Brilliant': Gary Lineker hails £30m Liverpool star; describes him as 'classy but fragile'

After 5 games without a goal, Liverpool, striker Daniel Sturridge got back on the scoresheet against Malta on Saturday night, prompting praise from England legend Gary Lineker.

Reacting to Sturridge's headed goal, Lineker enthused:

"Brilliant header from the classy but fragile Sturridge gives England the lead".

'Classy but fragile is the perfect description of Sturridge, but to be fair, the more he works under Jurgen Klopp, the less fragile he appears to be.

Since January 17th, £30m-rated Sturridge has missed only one game through injury, which, given his history, is a major step forward.

Klopp has effectively managed Sturridge's fitness by rarely playing him in full games more than once a week, and/or reducing his game time (through subbing off early).

It's simple: play Sturridge in more than one game every 7 days, and he'll probably get injured. Play him once a week, with 6-7 days recovery time, and the chances of injury are significantly reduced.

Sturridge appears to have come out of the Malta victory without getting injured, and he'll hopefully come through the Slovenia game unscathed, too.
