Transfer Battle: Liverpool fighting to sign €6m midfielder who's 'like a mannequin' on the field

Liverpool continue to be linked with new central midfielders, and Jurgen Klopp has reportedly set his sights on one of France's most promising talents.

According to The Mirror:

"Liverpool and Everton are shaping up for a £6m battle over French Under-20 international Soualiho Meite. West Ham are also keen on Meite, 22, along with Liverpool, Borussia Dortmund, and Schalke".

* Defensive midfielder, who can also play other central midfield roles.

* Registered with Lille, but currently on loan at Belgian side Zulte-Waregem. Current contract expires: 2017

* 87 appearances for Lille, Zulte, and Auxerre (2 goals/assists). Hasn't suffered any injuries yet.

* Apr 2015: When asked about his performances for Lille, Meite observed: "I sometimes lacks grit, and tend to be nonchalant. I realize that sometimes I have to force myself. I'm under contract until 2017, and I want to impose myself here".

* Jul 2015: When asked about Meite, Lille boss Frederic Antonetti scathed: "He is like a mannequin on the field at times, and I don't know how he expects to be that way when our opponents are mobile".

A lack of mobility and/or effort isn't going to cut it under Jurgen Klopp, and given Antonetti's comments - and Meite's admission that he tends to be 'nonchalant' on the field - this transfer seems unlikely.
