Transfer Update: Klopp still wants £31k-a-week 'diamond' who rejected Liverpool offer last month

Based on recent reports, Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp seems hellbent on signing another central defender, and it looks like summer target Niklas Sule remains on the manager's transfer wishlist.

According to the Liverpool Echo today, both Liverpool and Everton are tracking Sule, with competition likely to come from Arsenal and Spurs.

Earlier this month, SportBild claimed that Süle 'refused offers' from top clubs in the summer, including Liverpool, Dortmund, and AC Milan, and when asked why rejected the chance to sign for a big European club, Süle explained:

"I need a familiar environment, and I have to constantly play at my level even further".

Sule - who played alongside Roberto Firmino between 2013 and 2015 - probably realised that he'd spend most of time on the bench at most of the aforementioned clubs, so he clearly made the right decision to stay at Hoffenheim. If Klopp had signed Sule, that would've given Liverpool the following options at centre-back:

* Lovren, Klavan, Matip, Sakho, Lucas, Sule, Ilori.

In a year with a reduced fixture list, this is arguably too much competition for an inexperienced 20-year old. That said, perhaps Klopp's plan is to jettison Dejan Lovren and pair Joel Matip with a younger defender?

* Dec 2015: Described as a diamond by Hoffenheim general manager Alexander Rosen. Reportedly on £31k-a-week.
