Klopp raves: 'Quality' £23m powerhouse could be a great signing for Liverpool; the transfer makes 'sense'

After several solid performances, Reds defender Joel Matip is settling-in nicely at Liverpool, and according to LFC boss Jurgen Klopp, signing the £112k-a-week defender was a no-brainer.

In his pre-match press conference today, Klopp raved:

"If you lived and worked in Germany you would have known much more about him. It was pretty clear it would make sense to sign him. There was never a doubt about his quality."

Matip - hailed last week as 'excellent' by John Aldridge - looks like a great signing, but for me, the jury remains out until he's proven his consistency over a period 6-9 months.

So far, Liverpool have conceded three goals in Matip's four starts (a decent record), but the Reds are yet keep a clean sheet in the league, and that's the area where the Cameroon international really needs to make the difference.

Additionally, only five teams in the league have conceded more league goals than Liverpool this season (Watford, Bournemouth, West Ham, Stoke, Sunderland), and that tells you everything you need to know about the club's defensive solidity.

Hopefully, in the coming weeks, Matip's influence at the back will grow, and with any luck, this will lead to some clean sheets.

Starting with Hull City on Saturday, perhaps...?

^ Matip: 4-year contract worth £23m.
