Boss raves: 'Extraordinary' £72k-a-week Liverpool misfit can make it to the 'top'. Agree?

With four goals in two games, Liverpool flop Mario Balotelli has hit the ground running in France, and according to Nice boss Lucien Favre, the Italian has the ability to return to the apex of football.

Last night, Balotelli smashed in two more goals against Monaco, and after the game, Favre raved:

"Mario was important; he gave depth to the game, and now he has to continue like this. After difficult years, he can return to the top, and we'll try to help him".

France legend David Trezeguet is also convinced that Balotelli can resurrect his career, and in recent interview, he enthused:

“He [Balotelli] is an extraordinary player. His quality is undisputed, and he has started well. I hope he can get back to high levels”.

In two games, Balotelli has now matched his entire goal output at Liverpool, and the question is...why?

Balotelli claimed he 'didn't get along with' either Brendan Rodgers, or Jurgen Klopp, and both managers basically marginalised the Italian, with Mino Raiola accusing Klopp of failing to treat Balotelli like a 'human being'.

Liverpool fans can (and will) dismiss this, but it's vitally important. No player can thrive without the faith and confidence of the manager, and Balotelli got none of that whilst at Anfield. Lo and behold, though, the minute he plays for a manager who actually believes in him, the goals start to flow. There's a lesson there.

That said, Balotelli still has a long way to go. Four goals in two games is a good start, but in the grand scheme of things, it means very little. He has to prove it over an entire season, and deliver the goods during tough times, too.

Can he do it? I love a good underdog story, so I'm rooting for Balotelli.

* Reportedly on £72k-a-week at Nice
