Redknapp insists: 'Fantastic' £30m midfield sensation should be 'starting' ahead of Jordan Henderson for England. Agree?

Another day, another turgid England performance. A new manager may be in place, but it's the same old story with England, who had to wait until the 95th minute to scramble a winning goal against 10-men. Liverpool stars Jordan Henderson and Adam Lallana started the Slovakia game, according to ex-Red Jamie Redknapp, Henderson should've been left on the bench.

In his Tuesday column for the Daily Mail, Redknapp - who previously described Alli as 'fantastic' and compared him to Steven Gerrard - explained:

"Dele Alli must be in England's starting XI. Jordan Henderson simply does not offer as much as he does. Alli has imagination, skill and the ability to unlock doors. He sort of player we can build the team around".

Give me a break. If Alli^ had started the match, and underperformed (as he did at Euro 2016), Redknapp would probably be arguing that Henderson should've started.

In my view, Alli is increasingly overrated. For now, he's a decent Premier League player who's had one good season, but like many other English players, he'll probably consistently fail on the international stage.

Prior to his Spurs transfer, Liverpool were regularly linked with Alli, but the club ultimately decided against proceeding with the transfer. This enraged Reds legend John Aldridge, and in a recent column for the Liverpool Echo, he barked:

"Alli wanted to play for Liverpool; he was a fan who loved Steven Gerrard, and he had a manager at MK Dons who was keen for him to go to Liverpool. So to miss out on him is hard to take".

Gerrard himself admires Alli, and in November, he told BT Sport:

"I was disappointed Liverpool didn't sign him [Alli]. I could see [him] playing for Liverpool for 10 or 15 years."

For £5m, Alli is a bargain, and in the future, he may be consistent enough to usurp Hendo in the England team. One thing's for sure, though: neither Alli nor Hendo are capable of emulating the genius of Steven Gerrard.

^ Allegedly worth £30m.
