Offer Accepted: Liverpool finally close to sealing transfer for 'incredible' £90k-a-week attacker. Done Deal soon?

Last month, Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp publicly exhorted Mario Balotelli to leave the club this summer, and after a series of false starts, it looks like the Reds are finally on the verge selling the beleaguered striker.

Speaking to the Liverpool Echo in July, Klopp talked up Balotelli's 'world-class' crossing and heading ability in training, but insisted:

"We need a solution. There will be a club who would be happy to have Mario Balotelli. I have spoken clearly to him about that. It will not be a situation for Mario".

In recent weeks, Sampdoria and Crotone have expressed interest in signing Balotelli, but according to Tuesday's edition of Italian newspaper Corriere Della Serra:

* Chievo are interested in signing Balotelli, and the Serie A club has made an offer via his agent, Mino Raiola.

* Balotelli has accepted Chievo's offer to sign for the club, but the deal is dependent on Liverpool subsidising his £90k-a-week wages.

When asked on Tuesday about the possibility of signing Balotelli, Chievo president Luca Campedelli confirmed:

"It [a move for Balotelli] is something we are looking at, but it would be very difficult to pull off such a move. We must take into account difficulties in economic terms".

If the football Gods are smiling on Liverpool, this week could end both Balotelli and Benteke leaving Anfield, which will be a massive financial boost for the Reds.

Fingers crossed.

* Jul 2016: Described as an 'incredible talent' by Crotone president Raffaele Vrenna.
