Klopp to Sign? Liverpool still want £15m sensation who 'idolises Ronaldo'. Contact made already

Liverpool continue to be linked with a move for Ajax star Anwar El Ghazi, and new reports today suggest that the Reds are still interested in signing the exciting attacker.

Last week, TalkSport claimed:

"Ajax have told Liverpool to [pay] £15m to land Anwar El Ghazi. Liverpool [are] keen on El Ghazi after scouting him, but the funds depend on Markovic [leaving]".

According to Il Tiempo today:

"There is big competition for El Ghazi, from AC Milan and especially from Liverpool. Ajax's starting price for a transfer is €18m [£15m]".

Some info about 21-year old El Ghazi:

* 6'2 right-winger, who can also play as a striker. Current contract expires: 2019

* Ajax: 34 goals/assists in 82 games (One every 163 mins)

* Last season: 14 goals/assists in 38 games (One every 177 mins)

* 2015: Named Ajax 'Talent of the Year'.

* Ronaldo de Boer's assessment: assessment: "He [El Ghazi] idolises Ronaldo and is trying to copy him. He is similar in height and style".

* De Boer on where El Ghazi needs to improve: "He is too weak in the legs. Anwar likes to emulate Ronaldo, but instead of imitating tricks, he should focus on his body".

* Jaap Stam's view: "He [El Ghazi] has the talent and skills to become a good player, but he needs to concentrate on and keep the level up."

At first glance, there appears to be no room for El Ghazi, but the deal (arguably) makes sense, for the following reasons:

* Markovic is clearly not in Klopp's plans, and if (as expected) he leaves during the current transfer window, El Ghazi is a good replacement.

* Ojo recently cracked a bone in his back, and he'll be out until October. Plus, it'll take a little more time after that for him to retain full match fitness.

* With Ojo out, and Markovic on the outs, Mane is the only dedicated first-team winger, which means the Reds are basically in the same situation as last season.

Worth pursuing?
