'We've Spoken': Liverpool close to sealing transfer for 'outstanding' £80K-a-week Brazilian. Agreement reached already

Liverpool midfielder Lucas Leiva is edging ever closer to signing for Turkish giants Galatasaray, and according to one of the club's board members, a deal could be agreed this evening.

In mid-July, Turkish news outlet Fotomac claimed that Galatasaray were negotiating a 'one year loan deal'. Soon after, Fanatik claimed:

"Galatasaray is planning to announce the transfer of [Lucas Leiva]. The parties have an agreement, which will be formalized next week".

Speaking to the Daily Mail today, Galatasaray official Levent Nazifoglu further confirmed:

"We've spoken personally with Lucas Leiva. He asked for one more day. The situation will be clearer by tonight".

It appears that a deal is close, and whilst I'll be sad to see 'outstanding' Lucas go ( as he's a fantastic professional, and a positive role model for younger players), he is arguably better off making a move.

With the rise of Emre Can, and the recent signings of Marko Grujic, and Giorgino Wijnaldum, Lucas is clearly surplus to requirements, and at the age of 29, the last thing he needs to is to spend most of the season wasting away on the bench.

Whatever happens, Lucas remains (IMO) the best defensive-midfielder at the club, and given the choice, I'd take him (consistently fully-fit) over Emre Can every day of the week.
