'Klopp likes me': 'Outstanding' €33m attacker responds to Liverpool transfer rumours. Contact made already

Liverpool are currently linked with a move for Schalke attacker Max Meyer, and judging by his latest comments, Meyer appears to be a fan for Reds boss Jurgen Klopp.

Last week, Sportbild claimed:

* Jurgen Klopp is considering a move for Meyer, who he has allegedly 'admired' since his time in the Bundesliga.

* Klopp has made contact with Schalke to enquire about a possible summer transfer, and Liverpool are reportedly willing to pay €33m [£28m].

When asked this week about Liverpool's interest, Meyer - dubiously dubbed the 'German Messi' - told Kicker:

"I know from the past that he [Klopp] likes me as a player. He's a great coach. I am very happy at Schalke, but maybe someday I will consider new experiences, if another club is interested."

Some info about Meyer:

* 20-year old central attacking midfielder, who can also play on the left or right.

* Schalke: 19 goals/18 assists (37) in 125 games (G/A every 206 mins)

* Scouting Report (Strengths): "Exceptional control and dribbling. Excellent balance. Uses his creativity to carve out chances on a regular basis".

* Scouting Report (Weaknesses): "A liability when it comes to defending. Completed less than a tackle per game in the Bundesliga".

Liverpool are already oversubscribed in Meyer's position, so it makes little sense to spend €33m on yet another number-10, especially in a season with a drastically reduced fixture list.

In any event, Meyer should follow the example of Julian Draxler and stay in the Bundesliga. Too many young players chase the big club dream too early in their careers, and end up paying the price.

Meyer is a regular at Schalke, and playing football consistently every week - which he probably won't get at Liverpool - is the key to improvement.
