Record Transfer: Liverpool want 'extraordinary' £42m goal-machine who's 'better than Bale' to replace Benteke

In April The Mirror claimed that Liverpool were 'leading the chase' to sign Lyon star Alexander Lacazatte, and the transfer window in full swing, new reports suggest that the Reds remain in the race to sign the coveted striker.

On Wednesday, French newspaper Le10 Sport claimed:

"Lacazette^ is still wanted by Jurgen Klopp, but Liverpool are waiting to sell Christian Benteke before making an official move".

Unfortunately, it appears that Liverpool will have to break the club's transfer record to sign Lacazette. According to the Daily Mail this week:

"Lyon want at least £42m for Lacazette [who] does not have a release clause [in his contract]".

Last season, Lyon President Jean Michel Aulas claimed that Lacazette is 'better than Bale', and although his productivity tailed off a little last season, his stats are still creditable overall:

* 2014-15: 40 goals/assists in 40 apps (One every 87 mins)

* 2015-16: 27 goals/assists in 43 apps (One every 135 mins)

Ex-Reds boss Gerard Houllier is a fan of Lacazette, and he's convinced that his compatriot can be a success in the Premier League:

"He [Lacazette] can be world-class. He’s a very dedicated professional, so if he looks after himself he can become really top notch.”

With hispeed, mobility, and finishing ability (Daniel Sturridge's injury-related loss of explosive pace), Lacazette is an enticing option, but is he really worth a whopping £42m?
