Klopp to Sign? Liverpool plan new offer for 'terrific' €14m star with 'blistering pace'

The hunt for Alberto Moreno's replacement continues, and reports in France today suggest that Jurgen Klopp is set to make a move for 'terrific' Aston Villa star Jordan Amavi.

In June, L'Equipe claimed:

"Liverpool have contacted Amavi's agent to discuss a transfer. Aston Villa want to keep him, but they'll sell for €14m".

According to Le Parisien this week:

* Liverpool are still monitoring Amavi, a player Klopp has allegedly tracked for some time.

* The Reds are expected to make a bid for Amavi within the next '10 days'.

If this is true, then the quality of Liverpool's transfer targets continues to plummet, and it's a sad state of affairs when the club is seemingly reduced to picking the bones out of relegated clubs.

Some info about Amavi:

* Cost Villa £10m last summer.

* Nov 2016: Cruciate ligament injury, which ended his debut season for Villa after just 12 games.

* Aug 2015: Reds legend Phil Thompson raved: "He [Amavi] has got great ability. He got forward with blistering pace...and did his job defensively too".

* Oct 2015: Ex-Villa boss Tim Sherwood explained why he felt the need to drop Amavi: "There's always a moment that costs you a game. It is poor decision-making. I’m not just talking about Jordan Amavi, I’m talking about a lot of the guys".

Amavi may develop into a good Premier League performer, but for obvious reasons, it's madness to contemplate signing a player after a serious cruciate ligament injury.

Plus, once again: what is the point in spending €14m on a comparatively inexperienced 22-year old left-back when Liverpool have Brad Smith in the squad, a 22-year old international left-back with no serious injuries in his recent history?
