Deal Close? Boss confirms 'talks' with 'extraordinary' €47m attacker who texted Klopp. Liverpool transfer finally off?

Liverpool's long-mooted move for 'extraordinary' Bayern Munich star Mario Gotze appears to be dead in the water, and new developments this weekend suggest that this particular transfer saga is finally drawing to a close.

When asked last month about a potential move to Liverpool, Gotze's father - who is also his new agent - all but dismissed the possibility of a transfer:

“I don’t know anything about a transfer to Liverpool. Mario is my son, we talk to each other. I would know about it.”

Soon after, Gotze^ told Bild:

"I look forward to the new season in Munich and will do everything possible to be in top shape for my first training session under Carlo Ancelotti".

Well, it appears that Gotze* is on the verge of a return to Borussia Dortmund. Speaking to Sport 1 on Saturday, Bayern chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge confirmed that Gotze 'wants to leave', adding:

"Talks with Borussia Dortmund have taken place. There have also been talks with his agent. Both clubs will have to reach an agreement over a transfer fee first".

A few weeks ago, the Gotze deal seemed nailed-on, but Liverpool's failure to qualify for Europe next season has (negatively) changed the transfer landscape at Anfield.

This is good news, though, and the apparent failure of this deal is arguably for the best. Gotze is overhyped, and isn't worth the inevitably massive transfer fee it will take to seal the deal.
