'New Hazard' to Anfield? Liverpool favourites to sign 'exciting' €20m attacker who idolises 'Ronaldo'

In February, Liverpool were linked with a summer move for 'exciting' Lille star Sofiane Boufal, and new reports this week suggest that the Reds are set to make an official move for the Moroccan during the upcoming transfer window.

According to The Mirror:

"Liverpool are the favourites to land Lille sensation Sofiane Boufal. He has impressed [Liverpool] scouts who regularly watched him play [this season]"

When asked recently about Liverpool's interest, Lille Director Jean-Michel Vandamme told reporters:

"In June, he [Boufal] may leave. There are Premier League clubs after him. Boufal costs at least €20m.

Some info about Boufal, who is Nicknamed 'the new Hazard':

* Right winger, who can also play on the left, and as a number-10.

* This season: 12 goals/4assists in 35 apps (One every 170 mins).

* Lille total: 26 goals/assists in 51 apps (One every 145 mins)

* On his role models: "My biggest inspiration is Ronaldinho. For me, he is the best player of all time".

Boufal's minutes per goal/assist ratio is creditable, but 4 assists in 35 games this season is a pitiful return for an attacking midfielder, whose primary role is to create goals (and also score).

Additionally, Boufal is yet another small attacker, and Liverpool already have too many physically unimposing players. Some variety is needed at Anfield, and that (IMO) means signing a couple of tall, physically imposing AMs to complement the smaller attackers in the squad.

In any event, when asked in October about a move abroad, Boufal told France Football:

"I plan to go to a big European club that will play hopefully in the Champions League, in order to continue my progression".

That appears to rule out a move to Liverpool.
