Liverpool MegaDeal: Klopp desperate to sign 'fantastic' £30m attacker who's better than 'Messi/Neymar'

Liverpool continue to be linked with a summer move for 'fantastic' Southampton attacker Sadio Mane, and new reports this week suggest that the Senegal international is one of Jurgen Klopp's top targets this summer.

According to the Liverpool Echo:

"[Liverpool] are keen on securing the services on Mane, who would command a fee of around £30m. Klopp [is] a big admirer of [Mane], who came close to joining Liverpool before he signed for Southampton".

The Daily Mail adds:

"Jurgen Klopp [is] desperate to reinforce his squad and [Mane] has been identified as a major target".

Mane's stats for Southampton:

* 25 goals/14 assists in 75 games (Goal every 215 mins. G/A every goal/assist every 138 mins).

* This Season: 15 goals/9 assists in 43 games (Goel every goal every 207 mins. G/A every 135 mins.

* May 2015: Scored a Premier League hat-trick in 2 minutes and 56 seconds, and broke Robbie Fowler's long-standing record in the process.

* Oct 2014: Mady Toure, founder of Senegal's Génération Foot academy, raved: "We talk about Messi and Neymar but honestly, I don’t think these players are as good as Sadio Mané".

Mane better than Messi and Neymar? Clearly, Toure is another graduate of Hogwash, the Brendan Rodgers School of Balderdash and bulls%^t. What next: Zielinski is better than Ronaldo?

Gross hyperbole aside, with Southampton in turmoil after losing Ronald Koeman, now is probably the right time to try and pick the bones out of their squad. However, £30m is just too much, and after spending £60m on four other Saints players, it's another massive transfer gamble.

It's unlikely, but if Liverpool can get the price down to £20m, or negotiate a cash-plus-player deal (£20m plus Lallana, for example), then I'd welcome the Mane transfer.
