Agent Confirms: Liverpool 'held talks' to sign €7m 'New De Bruyne'. Transfer agreed already

Last week, Avellino-based news outlet Irpinia News claimed that Liverpool had reached an 'agreement in principle' to sign Anderlecht midfielder Samuel Bastien, and the Belgian star's agent has now confirmed the Reds' transfer interest.

When asked this week about a transfer to Anfield, Bastien's rep, Franklin Mala-Makani told SW:

"Liverpool held talks with Anderlecht's general manager [Herman van Holsbeeck] but Benfica also made an official offer. We will talk when it becomes official from Liverpool".

If Benfica 'also' made an offer, then it suggests the Reds have put in a bid, too. Some info about €7m-rated Bastien:

* Central midfielder, who can also play as an AM or a DM.

* 3 goals/assists in 31 games for Avellino this season.

* Jan 2016: Bastien's Agent told reporters: "He [Bastien] is creative, fast and unpredictable. Teams are following him".

* Feb 2016: On his time at Avellino: "Fans say I am the new Kevin De Bruyne, but I should stay realistic: this is only my first season".

* Feb 2016: When asked specifically about Liverpool's interest, he told reporters: "That makes me happy but I should take one step at a time. A return to Anderlecht is also possible".

It seems that Klopp is hellbent on signing another young central midfielder, but with 19-year old Marko Grujic already signed, and Brannagan, Stewart, and Chirivella at the club, there's arguably no point, especially with the reduced number of games next season.

Theoretically, Liverpool's first-team central midfield options next season: Can, Hendo, Allen, Grujic, Bastien, Milner, Brannagan, Stewart, Chrivella. That's an excellent set of options...for a team with ambitions of finishing 6th or 7th in the league.
