Come to Anfield: Emre Can tells 'extraordinary' £37m attacker to sign 'for Liverpool'

Get Gotze to Liverpool! That seems to be the rallying cry du jour, and Liverpool midfielder Emre Can is the latest high profile figure to urge Gotze to sign for Liverpool.

Speaking the German newspaper Bild this week, Can enthused:

"I would be very happy if Mario signs for Liverpool. A move to Liverpool would be good for Mario, and Jürgen Klopp has shown this season how much trust he puts in young players. "

In recent weeks, Roberto Firmino, Franz Beckenbauer, and Jan Molby have also callied for Liverpool to sign Gotze:

Firmino: "I know Götze well from my time in Germany. He has incredible qualities in attack. He would fit in well at Liverpool, and with his class, he'd surely help us".

Beckenbauer: "In his [Gotze's] place, I would go to a place [Liverpool] where I feel comfortable; I would follow in the footsteps of Jurgen Klopp".

Molby: "If Liverpool can get him [Gotze], they’ll be acquiring a top class talent. Klopp had him firing before. At Dortmund he was irresistible [and] you can never have too many good attacking players".

In March, Jurgen Klopp also publicly hailed £37m-rated [€47m] Gotze:

“He [Gotze] is a player with extraordinary abilities and wants to return to full fitness after four months on the sidelines.”

When Liverpool players feel comfortable publicly exhorting potential targets to sign for the club, it's arguably a clear sign that something is happening behind the scenes. With that in mind, it's surely only a matter of time until this transfer takes place

Hopefully, Liverpool will get this deal wrapped up before the Euros - Gotze's value may rocket if he has a good tournament, and it's probable that more top clubs will enter the race.
